Leopold Rothschild how the Rothschild Cigar Style came about

Leopoldi Rothschild was an avid sportsman, he established Southcourt Stud in Southcote, Bedfordshire. He assembled a stable of some of the best thoroughbreds in Europe, his horses winning a number of prestigious races including The Derby, St. Leger Stakes and the 2,000 Guineas. In the Epsom Derby of 1879 and 1904, his own horses got the cup.

Leopold de Rothschild commissioned a cigar in an effort to get a full-flavored smoking experience without having to spend a lot of time. Cuban cigars in the 19th century were generally longer and thinner. Rothschild had his cigar supplier create a shorter length with a wider body for a premium smoke that took less time to enjoy for his busy lifestyle. The Rothschild as we know it today was invented and the rest is history.
